The founder of the Ransinghe Watch Works, Mr. Ranasinghe Arachchige Don Abraham Ranasinghe born in Southern part of the island Bentara. He had completed his formal education and migrated from Southern Province to Matale with his father. With his natural technical competencies he managed to join one of the leading wrist watch repairing centre in the central province, Kandy.
He obtained the experiences to repair watch during that tenure. With that exposure in the year 1931, he started “Lanka Watch Works”at No 636, Main Street in Matale.
Romer, Oris, Invicta, Mondia and Enica are some internationally known brand that he had started services and repairing during that period. Also he had started renting out petrol lamps which is a very famous business during that period.
The business gradually started flourishing. On the year 1940, the Name Lanka Watch Works had taken the name as Ranasinghe Watch Works in the location No 17, Main Street, Matale, and started to flourish further.

Following the foot step of father, Brothers Mr. Jayatissa Ranasinghe and Mr. Jayarathna Ranasinghe took over the business and, further make it a success venture. Following the death Mr. Abraham Ranasinghe the founder of the Ranasinghe Watch Works on 1973, Mr Jayarathna Ranasinghe took over the business and lead that to a great success by winning the hearts of the people. Romer, Seiko, Cactal, Mondia are some of the internationally known wrist watch brands that Ranasinghe Watch Works started to deal with.
“Ransinghe Watch Works”now being over taken by the son of Mr. Jayarathna Ranasinghe, Mr. Kosala Ranasinghe. Now the center equipped with all the modern equipment and technology after a successful great 90 years of history.
